Most golf club websites are set up for the people who already belong

A golf club website has two very different audiences. Members want the draw, the results and the login. Everyone else (the visitor looking for a green fee, the company planning a corporate day, the couple pricing a wedding venue, the thirty-something who has just taken up the game) wants to know what it costs, how to book and who to call.

Club software is built for the first group, and it does that job well. The new revenue sits with the second group. Club membership across New Zealand reached 142,880 in February 2024, up 4.6% on the year before, and the clubs picking up those new members are the ones that make joining easy to understand from a phone.

Where a golf club website earns its keep

Membership

Clear categories, prices and a joining form that lands straight in the office inbox. If your club runs a waitlist, the same page captures interest so the committee knows the real demand before the AGM.

Green fees and visitors

Visitor rates, tee time booking links and course information, laid out for someone deciding between your course and the one down the road.

Functions and events

Weddings, corporate days, tournaments and clubhouse hire keep the bar and kitchen busy midweek. Each gets its own page and enquiry form, so the function coordinator receives a proper lead with a date and numbers attached.

Sponsorship

A sponsor page shows local businesses what their support buys, and gives existing sponsors a reason to renew each season.

The website should always earn more than it costs

Put in what one new sign-up is worth to you and see how many it takes to cover the monthly fee. It usually takes fewer than people expect.

Planned around how your organisation actually brings in revenue, and live within 10 to 12 weeks of sign-off.

Ongoing management

Hosting, security, updates and around 15 hours of support a year for the changes that keep the site current, handled by a senior team rather than whoever has time that week.

What you're probably wondering

These come up in almost every first conversation, so here are straight answers before you have to ask.

What's the catch with no upfront cost?

There isn't one hiding in the fine print. The monthly fee covers the new website, around 15 hours of support a year and ongoing SEO and AEO work, so you're taking on a website team as well as a website. A fixed monthly line is also a far easier conversation in a budget meeting than one large invoice followed by a separate support contract.

Are we locked into a contract?

The first term is three years and it rolls over from there, because the support, updates and search work carry on. If you need to end it during a term, you pay the remaining balance of that term in one payment and the agreement ends there. No client has ever left because they were unhappy with the work.

This is some text inside of a div block.

The agreement rolls into a new term and nothing changes on your side. We keep supporting the site, making updates and working on SEO and AEO, so it keeps bringing in more of the right people year after year.

What happens when people change over?

A managed website carries on when a volunteer or staff member moves on, because we look after it and you always keep your own analytics, Search Console and editing access.

Works alongside DotGolf

Your club keeps DotGolf for handicaps, member login, the draw and results. The public website sits in front of it and links straight through, so members sign in exactly as they do now and the office has nothing new to run. Pupuke Golf Club has worked this way for years, with members logging in through DotGolf on the club's own subdomain, members.pupuke.co.nz.

Pupuke Golf Club

Pupuke Golf Club

Pupuke runs the course, coaching, one of New Zealand's biggest She Loves Golf programmes, corporate golf days, a clubhouse for hire and a bar, café and bistro. The brief was to give each one a clear home online and make each one easy to say yes to.

Within a week you'll have a design of your new homepage, the monthly cost, and the numbers your decision makers will ask about, ready to table at your next meeting.

Get a homepage design & committee proposal
  • An initial homepage design for your club, using your logo, colours and course photography.
  • A one-page proposal for your committee covering the monthly cost, what's included, the three-year term and how many new members it takes to cover the fee.
  • A 20-minute call to walk you through both before your next committee meeting.

The new Pupuke website has made a huge difference to how we present the club. We have a lot going on across golf, coaching, events, functions and membership, and the site gives us a much more professional platform to promote all of it. It's also become an important enquiry and booking tool for the club, particularly for functions, programmes and new members.

Pupuke Golf Club

The short answers

Skyrocket designs, builds and manages websites for New Zealand golf clubs for $570 + GST a month, with no upfront build cost. The fee covers design, build, hosting, ongoing management, around 15 hours of support a year and ongoing SEO and AEO work, on a three-year term that rolls over. The site works alongside DotGolf, so members keep logging in, checking the draw and entering competitions as they do now.

How much does a golf club website cost?

$570 + GST a month with no upfront build cost, on a three-year term that rolls over. That covers design and build, hosting, security, around 15 hours of support a year and ongoing SEO and AEO work, so the club has one predictable line in the budget.

Do we have to leave DotGolf?

No. DotGolf stays in place for handicaps, member login, draws and results. Your new website links into it, and Pupuke Golf Club has run this way for years with members logging in through DotGolf as before.

Is this a payment plan for the website?

The monthly fee pays for an ongoing partnership with our team: the website itself, around 15 hours of support a year and continuous SEO and AEO work to grow it. The term rolls over after three years because that work carries on, and the club keeps access to its own Google Analytics, Search Console and site editing the whole time.

What happens if we need to end the agreement early?

You pay the remaining balance of the current term in one payment and the agreement ends there. No client has ever left because they were unhappy with the work.

How long does a new website take?

You'll see a homepage design within a week of our first conversation. From sign-off, the full website is live in 10 to 12 weeks.

Can our office staff or volunteers update the website?

Yes. Your team gets editing access for news, events and results, and we handle anything structural. When the volunteer who looked after the website moves on, nothing stops working.

Which platform will the website be built on?

Webflow or Squarespace, chosen around what your club needs and who will be making updates. Either way your team gets editing access, and anything larger than a quick text change is handled by us. Work beyond the included support hours is $110 + GST an hour, quoted before it starts.

How do we get this approved by the committee?

We prepare a one-page proposal for you to table: the monthly cost, what's included, the term and the number of new members or function bookings it takes to cover the fee. Most committees find a fixed monthly cost far easier to approve than a one-off capital spend.
